Today, the honor was given to the memory of those heroes who died for the homeland. The City Council members together with the representatives of Ajarian Government, Supreme Council and City Hall gathered at the April 9 memorial and garlanded it. On April 9, 1989 in Tbilisi, 21 people were killed, hundreds were injured, poisoned and maimed during the dispersion of peaceful demonstration for Georgia’s independence. Lethal weapons were used during the dispersion: chemical agents, sapper bars, fire weapons, armored personnel carriers and tanks.
9th of April was declared as a day of national independence and national unity of Georgia.
