The Chairman of Batumi City Council SulikoTebidze and the members of Gender Equality Council of Batumi City Council participated in the first national conference on the theme-“Strengthening of gender equality on local level”.
The basic part of the conference concerned changes done in the Georgian Law about gender equality, which means creation of gender equality councils in City Councils also receipt of special position who will work about gender issues. Different issues were discussed at the meeting, among them coordinated work of state and local authority, creation of local strategies. The conference was opened by First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia and the Chairman of Gender Equality Council-Tamar Chugoshvili and Mayor of Tbilisi-KakhaKaladze. The event was carried out by the help of NDI and UNDP.
