The Warriors Fallen In the August War Were Paid a Tribute

Eight years passed after the war between Georgia and Russia. The heroes fallen in the August war were remembered once again. Batumi City Council Chairman Irakli Tcheisvili and the City Council members, representatives of The Government of Ajara and The Supreme Council, The Mayor of Batumi, military servants of The Georgian Armed Forces, The August War participants, the family members of fallen warriors and the society representatives paid a tribute to the memory of the fallen warriors with the moment of silence. In the Javakhishvili street square, participants of the event, garnished symbolic memorial plaque with crowns and flowers. National anthem of Georgia was performed.
Military actions started by The Russian Government in August 7, 2008, completed with intervention of ground posture and air forces to the Georgian territory. The greater part of these territories is still occupied. 228 civilians, 169 soldiers and 14 policemen died in result of the August War. 150 000 residents have been forced to leave their houses. 30 000 of them are still remaining as refugees. 16 soldiers died from the region of Ajara in the August War.
