Today in the meeting hall of Batumi City Council was held meeting with working team about the issue connected with traffic organization. Stated meeting attended acting chairman of Batumi City Council Lasha Sirabidze, mayor of Batumi Giorgi Ermakov, representatives of municipality organizations, heads of non-governmental organizations and patrol force.
Representatives of transport system plan and transport modeling from German company “A+S Consult” made presentation at the meeting, aim of which was promotion of integrated municipal transport system and development of mobility system in Batumi and in the whole region.
Individual consultations were held with representatives of local authorities, non-governmental organizations, academic members and independent experts before this meeting, after which were highlighted problems and challenges that are in this field. During the meeting were discussed issues connected with transport infrastructure, traffic capacity of the city and ways of solving these problems. Acting chairman of Batumi City Council Lasha Sirabidze spoke about basic reasons of traffic jams and denoted that coming out from the scales of these problems; this issue should be discussed in complex way. Program is carried out by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and with finance of Global Environment Fund (GEF). Implementing partners are: Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia and Municipality of Batumi.
